Combi tour in Turkey: one week cycling & cruising and one week hotel trekking
Week 1. Cycling and cruising along the Carian coast
During the first week of this cycling tour you’ll discover Ancient Caria, which dates back to the late period BC and is geographically northwest of Lycia. Unlike many neighbouring tribes, the Carians were not descended from the Greeks but from the Etruscans. This sparsely populated area is known for its very jagged coastline, unspoiled countryside, harbours, deserted coves and low-traffic roads. With no widespread road network, it is ideal for a cycling cruise. In the third century AD, the area was conquered by Alexander the Great.
Type of bike trails week 1
The daily routes range from 20-35 km, are recreational in nature, not flat and last approximately 3 4 hours. You must regularly overcome some short climbs, with the average gradient being about 5% and a maximum altitude of about 300 metres. All routes, except for the first ride, go on paved roads with little traffic and are suitable for cyclists with a healthy level of fitness. If you don’t want to cycle you can just relax on board the ship.
The rides start after breakfast between 9:00-9:30 am. Some days the participants can decide upon a light or medium route and you can decide which route best suits you. Both tours will be guided.
The bike tours are recreational, you decide your own pace and we stop on a regular basis for tea and taking pictures. Normally the bike ride ends around 1:00 pm with an extended lunch on board of the ship and the afternoon is for relaxing and swimming. The ship will moor in a nice bay for the night.
Hotel trekking: cycling through the past and present along the southwest coast of Turkey
Besides the beautiful surroundings and the changing landscapes, we also cycle through the historical locations of the Lycian Empire. The Lycians were an ancient people who inhabited the area between Antalya and Fethiye, a mountainous area. We start our hotel trekking tour in Fethiye the most southwestern part of ancient Lykia. From Fethiye we continue south to Patara, the capital during the Lycian period and birth place of Santa Claus. From the cozy harbour village of Kaş we cycle along the spectacular coastline to Finike, known for its oranges orchards. From the little paradise of Adrasan we cycle to the impressive ancient Olympos.
Type of bike trails week 2
The cycling routes are mainly on smooth asphalted roads. We cycle through a wide variation of scenery, picturesque villages and archaeological monuments. The route takes us along the beautiful Lycian coastline interspersed with hilly terrain, with climbs that are not longer than a few kilometres.
