Macedonia has a rich history which you can find all over the country, like the Turkish influences due to centuries ruled by the Ottoman Empire.
The capital city of Macedonia: Skopje
The capital of the country is Skopje. This city was destroyed by a heavy earthquake in 1963. The bazaar survived for the most part and still has the Oriental atmosphere.
One of most beautiful structures is the stone bridge with 55 arches over the river Vardar, which was built in the 15th century.
In this area you can find a lot of Islamic influences, especially in the Turkish quarter. This quarter derived due to Sultan Mehmed II who had built this bridge by Turkish laborers.
